Earth Surface Mapping with Citizen Science and Generative AI

This work considers how generative AI and multimodal large language models can support citizen science approaches to land cover and land use mapping.

The central idea is that AI can help improve how volunteers, imagery, and spatial knowledge come together, while still keeping citizen science at the center of open and interpretable mapping workflows.
