15-Minute City

This project develops an agent-based modeling approach to estimate the size and shape of local communities in relation to the 15-minute city idea. It responds to a planning question that became especially visible during COVID-19: what would it mean for people to access daily essentials within a short trip from home?

By combining realistic street networks and points of interest, the model grows local communities from the bottom up and tests how different assumptions about accessibility change their boundaries. The work shows that there is no single universal 15-minute city extent; local urban form and the distribution of destinations matter.
